EA’s Decision on Dead Space 4
Earlier this year, members of the original Dead Space development team expressed their strong desire to create a new sequel.
Unfortunately, Electronic Arts (EA) shut down their proposal for Dead Space 4, leaving fans and creators wondering about the future of the beloved franchise.
Glen Schofield, who directed the original game and is now a co-founder of Sledgehammer Games and Striking Distance—the studio behind the horror title Callisto Protocol—shared that EA showed little interest in pursuing another installment in the series.
This decision comes in light of the positive reception following the release of the Dead Space Remake in January 2023, prompting concerns about what lies ahead for the franchise.
The Team’s Attempt to Pitch a Sequel
In a recent conversation with Dan Allen Gaming, Schofield, alongside his former colleagues Bret Robbins, the creative director, and Christopher Stone, the animation director, recounted their attempt to pitch a sequel this year.
While they didn’t dive too deeply into their ideas, they received a courteous yet definitive response from EA, who indicated they weren’t interested at this time.
Stone noted that the current atmosphere in the gaming industry tends to be risk-averse, which may pose challenges for innovative projects.
Despite this reluctance, he remains optimistic that their vision for the franchise could eventually be revisited, highlighting a collective eagerness among the team to see it continue.
Future Possibilities for the Franchise
Schofield also hinted at some creative concepts they’ve been considering for the series.
When asked about revisiting the horror genre, both he and Stone showed enthusiasm, indicating they would gladly accept the opportunity to contribute once again.
Earlier speculation suggested that despite the Dead Space Remake’s success, there might be a pause on the franchise itself.
The mixed feelings about its future linger, but the passionate team behind its origins holds out hope for a revival.
