Larian Studios has issued a warning for players of Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 regarding the unintentional early release of Patch 8, which poses a risk to their saved game files.
Patch 8 Early Access Warning
The studio recently shared details about a major update known as Patch 8, which is intended to be the final significant enhancement for the game.
However, some players on PS5 unexpectedly gained access to this patch ahead of its scheduled launch.
Larian took to social media to address the situation and acknowledge the mix-up.
At this point, the stress test for Patch 8 has yet to begin, though a select group of PlayStation 5 users were able to access the update prematurely.
Larian has advised gamers to take care, as any saves made with Patch 8 will not work with the prior version, Patch 7.
Incompatibility of Patches
Further clarifying the situation, Larian revealed that the premature availability of Patch 8 occurred for several hours for users in Europe and Asia.
They stressed that the two patches are incompatible and recommended that players uninstall and then reinstall the game to revert back to Patch 7.
Ignoring this advice could lead to the potential loss of saved game progress.
Larian also made it clear that just because a player has accessed Patch 8, it does not mean they are automatically part of the stress test.
Only those selected will receive a formal email notification, and the stress test is still set to kick off later this week.
Upcoming Features in Patch 8
On the horizon, Patch 8 is poised to bring a wealth of new features, including cross-play support across all platforms, a Photo Mode, a slew of bug fixes, and enhancements for mods.
In addition to this update, Larian is busy on another project codenamed Excalibur, while future sequels to Baldur’s Gate 3 will be handled by different development teams.
