Quest Overview
Welcome to your essential guide for the gripping quest “For Whom The Bell Tolls” in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Among a multitude of engaging missions within the game, this particular quest stands out, driven by a pressing urgency to save a dear friend, Hans Capon.
Set right after the chaotic events of “Wedding Crashers,” the quest catapults players into a thrilling predicament as Henry and Hans find themselves imprisoned in the ominous Trosky Castle.
The stakes could not be higher: while Henry is condemned to manual labor, Hans stands on the brink of execution for poaching.
To turn the tide in Hans’s favor, you’ll need to track down Captain Thomas, who can vouch for your identity and mission.
However, he’s not exactly easy to reach—he’s recuperating in the Maiden Tower, which sits high within the castle’s walls.
Time isn’t on your side.
Hans’s execution is set to occur right after the bells toll twelve times.
The first bell may have a slight delay, but from there, the subsequent tolls will sound every five minutes.
In total, you have about an hour to secure Captain Thomas’s assistance and thwart Hans’s dire fate.
- Restricted Areas: Numerous sections within Trosky Castle are off-limits.
By interacting with various non-playable characters (NPCs) or completing specific tasks, you can unlock these zones, allowing for seamless exploration without attracting guard attention.
- Inventory Challenge: Henry starts without his usual supplies.
You’ll need to find lockpicks on your own and gather materials to create Savior Schnapps for manual saves.
Prolog: The Initial Tasks
Initially, you’ll find yourself juggling some manual labor.
During our run, transporting sacks from the cart to the storeroom became our first priority.
Your next task comes from Osina, the blacksmith, who requests you to craft a horseshoe.
Completing this task involves several steps:
- Gather the necessary materials from a nearby chest.
- Head over to the anvil to kick off your crafting session.
- Heat the metal until it glows a bright yellow in the fire.
- Shape the hot metal by hammering it sideways.
- Once you finish, remember to hand the horseshoe over to Osina.
After accomplishing this task, it’s time to secure some lockpicks.
You’ll meet Kabat the Groom, who will offer you a choice: either buy lockpicks directly or go on a quest to retrieve his lost rosary from Father Nicodemus for a free set.
Navigating Castle Trosky
To locate Captain Thomas in the Maiden Tower, initiate a conversation with a man dressed in a red shirt outside the smithy.
He will guide you through the guards and into the inner castle.
When you arrive, you’ll find that Captain Thomas is bedridden.
Fortunately, his sister Adela mentions that a physician has something that might help him.
Next, your mission is to find the Physician’s Journal located in the Alchemy Room, as it contains the recipe for a Fever Tonic.
You’ll need to gather:
- Ginger: Ask the cook in the kitchen located in Crone Tower.
- Feverfew: Spot it on the terrace that leads down to the lower gate.
- Elderberry: Chat with the carpenter stationed at the upper gate.
To expedite the process, use the lockpicks you obtained to unlock a chest adjacent to the Alchemy Table, which conveniently holds the ingredients you need.
Crafting the Fever Tonic
Now, let’s brew that Fever Tonic.
Here’s how you do it:
- Base Ingredient: Begin with a bottle of wine.
- Add three doses of Feverfew into the cauldron and simmer for two complete turns.
- Take one Elderberry, grind it, and mix it in.
- Incorporate two doses of Ginger.
- Conclude your potion-making by holding the phial and interacting with the still.
With the Fever Tonic successfully brewed, make your way back to the Maiden Tower.
It’s vital that you enter Captain Thomas’s chamber before the final bell tolls to trigger a key cutscene.
Once you wrap up this quest, feel free to explore Trosky Castle further.
You can even dive into a side quest called “Demons of Trosky.”
