New Beginnings for Tango Gameworks

As the new year unfolds, Tango Gameworks is stepping into a new chapter for its creative endeavors.

The studio, now officially rebranded as Tango Gameworks Inc., has found a new home under the umbrella of Krafton Inc., the powerhouse behind the PUBG franchise.

This shift marks a dramatic turnaround for the studio, which was previously struggling during its tenure with Xbox Game Studios and even faced imminent closure.

A Glimmer of Hope

Last year’s struggles nearly spelled the end for Tango, prompting Krafton to step in and rescue the studio during a critical juncture.

In a transparent and uplifting message shared on the social media platform X, Tango expressed its excitement about this “new start” and its commitment to crafting enjoyable gaming experiences for players around the world.

This announcement was notably their first since May 7, 2024, a date that heralded dark news of an impending shutdown due to Microsoft’s significant operational cuts affecting multiple studios, including Arkane Austin, the team behind Redfall.

August brought a glimmer of hope for Tango Gameworks when Krafton acquired the studio along with the rights to the popular game Hi-Fi Rush.

This acquisition was pivotal, especially considering Tango’s journey since its founding in 2010, when it first made waves with the survival-horror series The Evil Within.

It’s worth noting that while Tango Gameworks Inc. has new backing, the rights to The Evil Within still reside with Microsoft.

Prior to its financial crisis, the studio had begun working on Hi-Fi Rush 2; however, any concrete plans for the sequel are still up in the air.

Krafton is aware of the potential risks involved with the sequel’s development, yet it remains committed to supporting Tango in exploring projects, even those that may not yield immediate financial success.

A Vision Forward

Krafton’s CEO, Changhan Kim, highlighted his vision for the studio, advocating a culture that fosters creativity and invites them to delve into innovative experiences.

With this transformation, Tango Gameworks Inc. is poised to rejuvenate its creative spirit and shape a vibrant future in the gaming landscape.
