Designer Will Ackermann, renowned for his work on “The Rise of the Golden Idol,” has announced an exciting new project titled “City of Voices.” In collaboration with pixel artist Matt Frith and his studio, Kimi Games, Ackermann aims to capture the essence of his earlier title while venturing into fresh thematic territory.

Setting and Storyline

Set in an English school, “City of Voices” tells the poignant story of a young girl grappling with the challenges of bullying.

While it begins as a typical slice-of-life adventure, the narrative takes a whimsical turn, plunging players into a fantastical world.

Echoing the investigative elements of “The Rise of the Golden Idol,” players will embark on a quest to collect and analyze clues that seem frozen in time, piecing together a rich tapestry of the storyline.

Collaboration and Development

In the development of this new title, Ackermann sought the insights of his colleagues, Andrejs and Ernests Kļaviņš, the minds behind “The Rise of the Golden Idol.” He was initially nervous about approaching them for permission to borrow some of their innovative deduction mechanics, but he was pleasantly surprised to discover their enthusiasm for the concept.

Release Information

As of now, “City of Voices” is confirmed for release on PC, although a launch date remains undisclosed.

GameSpot previously praised “The Rise of the Golden Idol” for its inventive approach to the detective genre, noting that while it may downplay traditional murder mysteries, it excels at prioritizing deduction and reasoning in gameplay.

Through “City of Voices,” Ackermann aims to continue this legacy in a new, engaging context.
